When I began to practice medicine almost thirty years ago, I recognized that the body and mind were interconnected. As a healer, I would have to reach beyond traditional wisdom and address both areas so that my patients could achieve a state of wellness.

Now it is widely recognized that emotional distress can lead to physical illness and fluctuations in weight and that physical illness and retention of weight can also affect our mental health. As a psychiatrist, I am in a unique position to understand and treat both the physical and mental aspect of health and wellness. This is why I specialize in both general and forensic psychiatry and permanent weight loss for life. I evaluate the person as a whole before making any diagnosis or treatment plan.

Our logo was inspired by the graceful movement depicted in a prize-winning photograph of an adolescent diving into a pond. Like the diver, we experience various shifts and motion in our lives. One’s grace in meeting these challenges results in positive growth and success. This is the essence of what we strive to convey to our patients.

My general & forensic practice specializes in the evaluation and treatment of individuals suffering from emotional problems, mental disease, personal injuries, work-related stress, sexual harassment or those who may need medical management as part of their treatment. I am also a Qualified Medical Examiner, an Independent Medical Examiner and I am an expert witness listed in the Los Angeles County Bar Association Expert Directory.

Being overweight or obese is a serious health problem that has reached epidemic proportions. It puts you at a greater risk of developing Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, Cancer and Arthritis. In addition, being chronically overweight is often accompanied by emotional distress – lowered self-esteem, depression and poor social adjustment. I know this from my own experience as well as from the struggles of my patients. Trying to lose weight is difficult and frustrating without the proper support.

At Behavioral Associates: A Medical Group, in Los Angeles, we offer a medical weight reduction program that can help anyone who has hit the wall in other programs. I consider myself more than a diet doctor; my patients reach more than their goal weight. They also reach a state of heightened awareness about themselves and their relationship to food. Here, achieving weight loss for life is a reality because we provide medical, nutritional, psychological and coaching support that enables a patient to reach and maintain their goal weight. We treat the whole person and support them to achieve wellness and success in meeting their goals -- either from the inside out or the outside in. We definitely are not an impersonal diet center where every patient gets the same treatment.

Do you have an insatiable appetite, insomnia, sleep apnea and cravings for carbohydrates? Do you eat unconsciously and live in a food fog? Do you medicate yourself with food? All of these behaviors stall the process and further block the path to permanent weight reduction. If you are experiencing any of these problems, we have a solution. The good news is: they are treatable and reversible.

Yes, achieving and maintaining weight loss for life is a challenge, but it is not an impossible dream.
